Government and Public Policy

In a mature energy basin and sector one would assume that our national and provincial regulatory processes and our public policies and procedures would be etched in stone.

Nothing could be further from the truth. The government and public policy goal posts in this country move on the energy playing field almost daily. Frankly, there are times when they seem to be non-existent.

To navigate the ever-changing playing field, clients call on Mike – for his experience, expertise and his ability to negotiate to a win.

Regulatory applications and approvals

Mike has acted for clients on regulatory matters from federally-regulated (with the complementary provincial oversight and requirements) major infrastructure, pipeline and tide-water access initiatives, obtaining water flood and other secondary and tertiary-recovery project approvals to single well and pipeline license transfer applications. All within a regulatory environment of constantly changing rules, priorities, regulations and political edicts.

Government relations and public policy

Public policies change often. Sometimes by evolution when existing policies need to address new social, economic or industry challenges, or when new energy policies are introduced. Mike continuously monitors and analyzes these changes providing leading-edge expert advice on the rules, regulations and current policies and perhaps most importantly, where they might be going over the short and long-term.
